1 Obtaining radioisotope
fluorine-18

Protons are accelerated in a charged particle accelerator (cyclotron), getting fluorine-18 isotope from a nuclear reaction with water enriched by oxygen-18 (18O) isotope

2 Radiopharmaceutical processing

The fluorine-18 isotope obtainedin the cyclotron is transferred to the synthesis laboratory, where it is combined with, for example, glucose in the course of a chemical reaction. The result is the radiopharmaceutical 18F-FDG.

3 Radiopharmaceutical dispensing

The radiopharmaceutical is filtered through two membrane filters with a pore size of 0.22 µm for additional purification under aseptic conditions. The vial with the prepared radiopharmaceutical is placed in a protective tungsten container for safe transportation.

4 Quality control

The dispensed pharmaceutical is tested in a quality control laboratory for compliance with international quality standards for manufactured products.
