Prostate-specific antigen

18F-PSMA
Tracer for prostate cancer diagnosing

The action of the tracer 18F-PSMA is based on its ability to specifically identify and bind to prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA), the activity of which increases in most primary and metastatic lesions of the prostate gland.

The advantage of the tracer with 18F in its composition (in contrast to a similar tracer with 68Ga) is that the positrons emitted by the fluorine isotope have lower energy. This allows to reduce the "noise" of the image, improve contrast resolution and increase the probability of detecting small formations.
